Highlight of the Week
WOW! What a GREAT week we had at Prairie! This past Wednesday we had our
first cultural arts program. Donna Washington (storyteller, author, and mom) came
to share stories with our students. She shared two stories with our students. Her
storytelling was very much enjoyed by the students., which we could tell through the
laughter and excitement coming from the audience during the presentation. Thank you
PTO for inviting this wonderful guest visitor to our school to share these great stories!
For more information about Donna Washington you can visit her website for some of her other books and stories.
October Prairie Pals Activity
Thursday we had our monthly school community Prairie Pal activity...Bingo over the PA system in celebration of our Kind, Respectful, Responsible, and Ready students. Sounds a bit different, right? But was it ever fun! This 30 minute activity provided Prairie Pal classrooms the opportunity to work cooperatively in managing the bingo board in hopes of getting BINGO! while the Positively Prairie Student Leadership Team called the BINGO numbers. Winning pairs of students came to the MPR after the game to receive their choice of prizes which were: a homework pass, a sit-with-anyone at lunch ticket, or a $1.00 ticket for an item or two at the school store on Wednesdays. Many teachers and students commented on how much fun it was and can't wait until the next Positively Prairie all school reward!
Attention 4th & 5th Graders!
We have a few more openings. The Photography Club will meet on Tuesday mornings at 7:50 in Room 19. Photographers will be responsible for taking pictures throughout the year of various events to be hung in our Prairie hallways. Students will be assigned events to cover. Some activities include Positively Prairie Assemblies, Cultural Arts assemblies, and classroom activities. Click here for information and to register for Photography Club.
5PAC
The 5th Grade Principal's Advisory Council-5PAC-met for the first time on Monday, 10/22. 5PAC is a monthly opportunity for small groups of 5th graders to meet with me to discuss ideas around topics that are of importance to students. Groups of 8-10 students have been created to provide an opportunity for each 5th grader to be a part of 5PAC this school year.
Earlier this month, I met with all 5th grade classes to brainstorm ideas to discuss throughout the school year. We developed a very interesting list. At our working lunch/recess meeting on Monday, we talked about incentive activities that all students could enjoy. We had a great conversation and I look forward to sharing these ideas with the Positively Prairie Committee for consideration for upcoming Prairie Pal activities.

The 2012 ILLINOIS STATE SCHOOL REPORT CARDS are now online on the District 96 website. State and federal laws require public schools to release report cards to the public annually, providing the opportunity to compare data–including academic, financial, and demographic information–statewide. Each State School Report Card also includes information on areas of success and planned improvement.
Illinois students in Grades 3 – 8 take the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT). Reading and math are tested in Grades 3 – 8; science is tested in Grades 4 and 7 only. In overall student performance on the ISAT administered March 2012 in reading, math, and science, 96.6 percent of District 96 students in Grades 3–8 meet or exceed the Illinois Learning Standards.
See STATE REPORT CARDS for each District 96 school, as well as a STATE REPORT CARD FOR THE DISTRICT.
